While it can be overwhelming to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology, incorporating it into our teaching can be a game-changer for both us and our students. In this article, I’ll be sharing with you 5 ways to incorporate technology into your classroom that will help you engage your students, create interactive lessons, and make your life as a teacher a little bit easier.
Use Online Collaboration Tools
I’ve found that using online collaboration tools is a great way to encourage teamwork and collaboration among students. With so many digital platforms available today, it’s easier than ever to integrate technology into your classroom and make learning more engaging and interactive.
One of my favorite online collaboration tools is Google Docs. This free tool allows students to create and edit documents in real time, making it easy for them to work together on group projects or assignments. Google Docs also enables me to give instant feedback and make suggestions on students’ work as they’re typing, which is a game-changer when it comes to productivity and efficiency.
Another tool that I’ve found to be very useful is Padlet. Padlet is an online bulletin board that allows students to post and share ideas, images, videos, and other content. I often use Padlet as a way to encourage brainstorming and collaboration on class projects, as well as a way for students to share their thoughts and opinions on various topics.

Gamify Your Lessons
I always strive to make learning as engaging and fun as possible for my students. One way I do this is by gamifying my lessons. Gamification involves turning regular lessons into games or challenges to make them more interesting and interactive. There are many online tools and apps available that can help you do this, such as Kahoot!, Quizlet, and Gimkit or Boom Cards. These tools allow you to create quizzes, flashcards, and other games that students can play individually or in groups. For example, after working on a text / article I always suggest a Kahoot quizz around that document so my students can show they understood the document properly without having to say it out loud. They love it and it’s always an absolute hit.
Create Multimedia Presentations
Creating multimedia presentations is a great way to incorporate technology in your classroom and engage your students. I have found that using tools like PowerPoint, Prezi, and Google Slides can really make a lesson come alive. With these tools, I can add images, videos, and audio clips to my presentations, making them more interactive and engaging for my students.
To get started, I recommend taking some time to explore the features of each tool and decide which one works best for you and your classroom. Once you have chosen your tool, start by creating a simple presentation to get comfortable with the software. From there, you can begin adding multimedia elements to enhance your lessons.
For example, if you are teaching a history lesson, you can add images of artifacts, maps, and videos of historical events. If you are teaching a science lesson, you can add videos of experiments, images of microorganisms, and interactive diagrams. The possibilities are endless!
One tip I have found helpful is to keep the design simple and visually appealing. Too much text or clutter can be overwhelming for students and distract from the content. Also, be sure to have a clear focus and purpose for your presentation to keep your students engaged and on track. Give it a try and see how it can transform your lessons!
Use Educational Apps
When it comes to incorporating technology into my lessons, educational apps are one of my favorite tools to use in the classroom. There are countless apps available for a variety of subjects and grade levels, making it easy to find the perfect app to enhance any lesson.

These apps can also be used to differentiate instruction, allowing each student to learn at their own pace.

Many apps offer immediate feedback and progress tracking, which can help both students and teachers identify areas that need improvement and adjust instruction accordingly. My favorite one to use is Flipgrid. It is a fantastic educational app that allows me to create video discussion topics where students can respond with their own videos. It’s a great way to encourage participation and collaboration in the classroom. I love how it gives each student a voice and makes the learning experience more interactive and engaging. Plus, it’s easy to use and can be accessed from any device with an internet connection.
Of course, it’s important to choose high-quality educational apps that align with learning objectives and standards. Before using an app in the classroom, I always make sure to test it out myself to ensure it is appropriate for my students and their needs.
Implement Flipped Learning
This approach involves assigning instructional content, such as videos or readings, for students to review at home. Then, during class time, students work on activities, projects, and assessments that build upon that content.
I love flipped learning because it allows me to spend more time working directly with students during class, providing targeted support and feedback. It also encourages students to take ownership of their learning and work at their own pace, which can help increase engagement and motivation.
To implement flipped learning in your classroom, you can start by identifying the instructional content you want to assign for homework. You can create your own videos or find resources online, such as those available on Khan Academy or TED-Ed. Then, plan activities or projects for class time that build upon that content, such as discussions, problem-solving activities, or creative projects.
It’s important to communicate clearly with your students and their families about how flipped learning works and what their expectations are. You can also provide support and resources for students who may need extra help or may not have access to technology at home. With the right approach and support, flipped learning can be a valuable tool for increasing student engagement, learning, and achievement.
